Sociocultural Theory



Today, I learnt about Sociocultural Theory

Sociocultural theory is an emerging theory in psychology that looks at the important contributions that society makes to individual development. This theory stresses the interaction between developing people and the culture in which they live. This theory suggests that human learning is largely a social process.

The end of CLT


 

Today, I had a seminar in English teaching course in the morning. In the beginning, teacher taught us about punctually because there are many people came late in this week.After that, teacher assigned us to discuss in group of six people. The topic of article is " The End of CLT: a context approach to language teaching by Stephen Bax. 




       This article discuss about limitation of CLT and present new approach to teach students that is context approach.




           For this lesson today, I think this lesson is very useful for teaching in the future. 

LEARNING REFLECTION (SEMINAR IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING) Week 10

Current Trends and Issues in English Language Education in Asia.




Today, I had class in the morning. Teacher assigned us to make a group of 7 people and summarize the idea from the research “Current Trends and Issues in English Language Education in Asia"



 This research has surveyed current Trends and Issues in English Language Education in Asia; 16 nations and Hong Kong and Taiwan. The result of this research show the problem in English teaching in Asia and these problems should be solve for improving quality of English teaching.


  
   After that, teacher taught us about 21 century skill. Finally, teacher assigned us to read research about the end of CLT for next week.




  For me, this lesson is very difficult because there are many problems in English teaching and learning. 

LEARNING REFLECTION (SEMINAR IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING) Week 9



Today I had class all day. In the beginning, Teacher reviewed the previous lesson by asking some questions for example, what is ICT? Etc. Then, teacher asked us to summarize and read article about CALL.




 CALL or Computer Assisted Language Learning is using computer in language teaching. There are three important phases of CALL;
1. Behavioristic CALL (focus on drill and practice)
2. Communicative CALL (focus on using form in real situation)
3. Integrative CALL ( multimedia and internet)



    After that, teacher summarized the article to us again. Then, teacher assigned homework for us to read the research about current trend and issues in English Language Education in Asia for next week.

   For me, this lesson is very interesting because ICT is very important in education.If we understand and use ICT in appropriate way. It can enhance teaching's effectiveness.



LEARNING REFLECTION (SEMINAR IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING) Week 8



ICT Enhancing English Language Teaching and Learning


Today I had a seminar in English class in the morning.  I had midterm examination in this subject.
   
      In the beginning, teacher taught us about ICT in language teaching. First, teacher asked us what is ICT? and taught about asynchronous and synchronous.






What is ICT? and taught about asynchronous and synchronous.
      After class, teacher assigned us to read the article about CALL ( Computer Assisted Language Learning) and prepare for our homework.









      Then, we had midterm test. The test has 3 items. It focus in English Language teaching and learning. For me, this test is very difficult because we had to use our skill to do the test.
     For ICT, I think this topic is very interesting topic because ICT is the important role in English teaching in nowadays. I think it's important for teacher to use ICT in classroom because it help teacher in teaching and save time.

LEARNING REFLECTION (SEMINAR IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING) Week 7

       This week, my teacher gave a research about “Factor Effecting English Language  Teaching and Learning Higher Education”.The teacher assigned students to think and shared their ideas about c. But me, I could divided  the contents into 3 categories: teacher, students and atmosphere or environment.




     First categories is teacher consists of experience teaching and relationship between teacher and students etc.
      Second categories is student such as attitude to study, background knowledge, style of learner etc. 
     Last categories is atmosphere included atmosphere in classroom, size of class and management about time.




When I shared idea with friends made me know that had many factor have an affect on learning of learner so Teacher should be improve these factors for development learners. Today I’ve found that the main my problem was some topic I couldn’t understand about detail or informatio. Moreover, in my opinion I felt very happy with our class because this class help me understand each  the lesson more. Finally, I will adjust and apply this teaching to my students  because this method encourage, motivate and build up a good friendship between learners and learner etc.

LEARNING REFLECTION (SEMINAR IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING) Week 6

   Class started at 8:30 a.m.The lesson have two friends come back from Philippines and Indonesia shared experience about practice of teaching in their countries. Their experiences have many topics:Then, students worked in group and discussed altogether.               


The topic is “Classroom Learning context: teacher’s description”. Next, Each group present detail the passage.Moreover , the students work in pair and read the passage and comment on each classroom learning context that which classroom do you like most ?and what are strengths and weakness to each classroom. And some of students (3 people) presented in front of the class. After that the teacher summarized the lesson. Finally , the student discussed the topic.


“Factor and  Affecting ELT learning” in a small group and did mind mapping.In my opinion, I understood the lesson more because context to learning  in many countries was my strategy for reading . I solved the problem by practice about reading more and more.



LEARNING REFLECTION (SEMINAR IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING) Week 5


This week, we  studied about "The roles of English Language Education in Asian Context". This research of Bok Myung Chang and the detail of research about history of English Language Education in Asian Countries: Singapore,Hong Kong, China,Malaysia,Taiwan,Japan and Korea.I very interested in this topic.It is very excited.


   Next, each group discussed in their groups and present idea of members in each groups. For me, difficulty about reading is a research had many contents

so,I had to read this research advanced and tried to concentrate while the teacher taught the lesson more.This week, the teacher gave time enough for read and discussed in each groups so I felt very happy and fun about learning.


LEARNING REFLECTION (SEMINAR IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING) Week 4


      Class started at 8.30 a.m. Teacher started the lesson by introduction ESL and EFL, we presented our topic about the differences between ESL learning and EFL learning in front of the class  together.And, teacher summarized the lesson and lectured next topic of today. The topic was 21st century learning pedagogy.


This week  I studied many class. I already searched information for discussion with my group. I thought that my weakness was vocabularies because I read an article I had to searched for vocabularies from dictionary online on my cell phone  I tried to memorize vocabularies as much as I can. This is my way to solve the problem.

My attitude toward is I can explain about differences between ESL learning and EFL learning



LEARNING REFLECTION (SEMINAR IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING) Week 3

     Today start at 8.30 Before I started the lesson. My teacher presented our tasks of each group in front of the class. My friends and I watched the video about World English of
 David Cystal from YouTube (2 times) and I took some notes for finding main idea.


After that , class made work in group for discussion and presented in front of the class. The teacher summarized and explained the lesson. Lastly, teacher lectured teaching and the end of the class she assigned the task about differences between TEFL context and TESL context that how different? both of this. I found the problem as last week so, I tried to search way for reading article when I already solved the problem, this time I felt happy more than the past.

The most important thing was understood about world englishes was better than.

LEARNING REFLECTION (SEMINAR IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING) Week 2

Today start at 8:30 a.m. Before I started the lesson. Teacher made groups from count the number and gave topics as follows:

1.Global English

2.EFL or English as a foreign language

3.ESL or English as a second language

4.EIL or English as a international language


5.Lingual franca

After that we presented detail of topics in front of the class. The topics have many in format but it made me knew about it more.
I think I could read faster than in the past but reading skill is still not well . This is problem for me so, I have to practiced to read about articles more and more. My attitudes toward to this lesson is I can apply content and knowledge of this lesson for studying other lesson.




LEARNING REFLECTION (SEMINAR IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING) Week 1

1.What did you learned today?

     Today it's the first day of new semester. Teacher tell me about course syllabus. Then, the teacher gave topics for discussion and there are four subjects as follows;

1.English Teaching Methodology1.
2.English Language Assessment and Evaluation.
3.Learning English through projects.
4.cultures of speakers of English.

   After that, I discussed and shared idea within group of each group. Finally, the teacher taught and assigned tasks for discussion.

2.What did you find easy?

 I think that choose appropriate strategy more than the past and it helps me can study increasingly.

3.What did you find difficult?
  In my opinion, I'm not familiar with this subject such as articles,research and journals etc. so,I think that I don't understand the aim/purpose about them.
4. What did you solve the problem?
I think I should study and search for information and practice reading from easy level.

5.What did you attitudes towards the lesson?

   I believe I can read articles, research, journals and newspaper  more than the past.
